The GIS Analyst will develop and update maps, drawings, and data detailing telecommunications plant and related equipment; specifically, for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of fiber optic networks and infrastructure. This work will include the collection, creation, editing, and verification/QC of spatial data and associated attributes using ESRI’s ArcGIS software with SQL Server/SDE databases, in conjunction with the Schneider Electric ArcFM Fiber Management system. The GIS Analyst will produce and maintain web maps on the company intranet and internal mapping portals as well as ArcGIS Online. The GIS Analyst works closely with Project Managers, Fiber Optic Network Engineers, Operations and Maintenance personnel, and should be comfortable working on multi-agency GIS projects with co-workers, state and local agency personnel, broadband providers and consumers, consultants and other officials.


The successful candidate will be an experienced, detail-oriented analyst capable of supporting data and mapping needs required to design, construct, identify, deploy and track telecommunications infrastructure and services. The GIS Analyst will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain GIS hardware and software systems, including; ArcGIS 10.2.x, Schneider Electric ArcFM Fiber Manager, AutoCAD Map 2016, Trimble Pathfinder Office and Terrasync, Microsoft Office, computers, plotters and data collection devices.
  • Gather, create, edit, and integrate geospatial data and associated attribute information in geodatabase formats including; ArcSDE/SQL Server, shapefiles, and personal geodatabases.
  • Perform spatial analysis and create internal and high quality cartographic maps upon request.
  • Assist in publishing/converting information to ArcGIS Services and external sources including AutoCAD, Google Earth, Excel, Mobile platforms & GIS mapping portals.
  • Automation of GIS tasks and reports utilizing Jenkins or similar continuous integration tools.
  • Georeference/digitize GIS data, identify and correct errors introduced when merging data sets from multiple sources.
  • Perform and automate geoprocessing tasks using Python, ArcToolbox, ModelBuilder and 3rd party tools.
  • Find and use freely available resources to gather GIS and related data files and to investigate potential data corrections and updates.
  • Processing and publishing field data collected with Trimble/GPS equipment using Trimble or other GPS hardware and software; Trimble GeoXH data collectors, Trimble Pathfinder Office, and Global Mapper.
  • Document and maintain records on data processing procedures.
  • Participate in additional GIS mapping related activities including data processing, strand mapping, building design and other tasks using both ESRI and AutoCAD software.
  • Create and maintain innovative web maps and mapping portals using ArcGIS Online and legacy systems.
  • Support Esri mobile GIS applications.


Your expert level knowledge of ArcGIS 10.2.x, (ArcEditor, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access) will be required to accomplish your role successfully. Knowledge of and experience with other GIS and CAD software (including open source software), Trimble software and hardware, AutoCAD Map 2016, Microsoft Visio, SQL Server, Visual Basic, Python, HTML, ASP or other programming languages and of web and database design, development and maintenance are highly desirable. This position requires utilizing Schneider Electric ArcFM Fiber Manager, (previously Telvent) which will require a substantial amount of fiber optic network design knowledge. The ability to create and maintain innovative web maps and mapping portals using ArcGIS Online and legacy systems will be essential for success. The ideal candidate will also have experience in the telecommunications industry with a deep understanding of fiber optic network design, construction, maintenance and operations.


  • 8-10 years of GIS experience, or 3-5 years of GIS experience in utility sector
  • Bachelor Degree in Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science or related field
  • Master’s Degree and/or GISP Certification (as a plus)
  • Possess interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively work within multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Ability to prioritize, adapt and meet deadlines, must be able to work independently
  • Strong organizational and analytical aptitude
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations from GIS data
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and problem solving abilities
  • Deep Understanding of GIS concepts
  • Expert proficiency in the use of Esri platform
  • Deep understanding of Esri Geodata (Versioning, Multiuser, Replication)
  • Knowledge of Esri system architecture for enterprise GIS
  • Experience organizing, managing and maintaining ArcSDE & SQL Server data tables
  • Python and Esri ModelBuilder working experience
  • Experience publishing with ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS
  • Experienced in GIS data integration with external systems (as a plus)
  • Web GIS Development using JavaScript, HTML5, CSS (as a plus)
